From when can I receive compensation in the event of a flight delay or cancellation at Hamburg Airport?
The EU Air Passenger Rights Regulation states that air passengers are entitled to compensation in the event of a delay of more than 3 hours, flight cancellation, rebooking or missed connection. To receive compensation under EU air passenger legislation, your flight must have departed from the EU or landed in the EU while the airline is based in the EU. In addition, the airline itself must have caused the delay and the flight must have taken place within the last 3 years.
Basically:
- Delays: Your flight has arrived at its destination more than 3 hours late.
- Cancellations: You were informed of the cancellation less than 14 days before departure.
- Overbooking: The airline overbooks your flight and you can no longer find a seat on board.
- Missed connecting flight: You miss your connecting flight and reach your final destination with a delay of 3 hours or more.
The amount of your compensation relates only to the journey, not to the price you paid for the ticket:
- Short distance (less than 1500 kilometers): You are entitled to an indemnity of 250 euros at Hamburg airport.

What are my rights if I have to wait a long time at the airport?
In case of flight delay of 3 hours or more or flight cancellation, you are entitled to airport assistance. You are entitled to drinks, meals, two free telephone calls, e-mails or faxes. Depending on the flight route, you will receive the benefits after different periods of time:
- Short distance up to 1500 km: from 2 hours standby time
- Medium distance 1500-3500 km: from 3 hours waiting time onwards
- Long distance from 3500 km onwards: from 4 hours delay at start-up
- In case of overbooking, you are entitled to all services without waiting time.
What are my passenger rights in the event of a flight cancellation due to a strike at Hamburg Airport?

By public transport to Hamburg Airport
Travellers can take the train to Hamburg airport. The airport is connected to the rail network. The S1 line runs every 10 minutes between the main station and the airport. The journey time is 25 minutes. A single journey costs about 3 euros. There are also several bus lines. Hamburg Airport is also connected to the long-distance bus network.
How to get to Hamburg Airport by car
Arrival and departure by car is via the A7 motorway. Depending on traffic conditions, the journey from Hamburg city center takes about 30 minutes.
Hamburg Airport Parking
With more than 12,000 parking spaces, Hamburg Airport offers numerous possibilities for parking your vehicle. The so-called terminal car parks are located directly in front of the terminals and the security checkpoint. They are especially recommended for short-term parking. If you are leaving Hamburg Airport and would like to park your car there for a longer period of time, it is best to use the long-stay car parks. These are located both in the multi-storey car park P1 and in car parks P8-9. A shuttle bus takes travellers from there to the airport and back. Long-stay parking spaces can be booked online.
How far in advance do I have to be at Hamburg airport?

From Hamburg airport to the city center
